![]() ![]() It was a wild match, with varying degrees of involvement from the other stables, but in the end, Chavo won out, getting the roll-up and the WCW Cruiserweight belt, his first major title reign. Loco entered a Three-Way match for the Cruiserweight Title, against the Disco Inferno (part of the Filthy Animals) and the reigning champion, Daffney. They battled against the Filthy Animals, a branch of the New Blood, for a few months, fighting in and out of arenas. Loco fought the good fight along with his teammates in the M.I.A., Captain/General Rection (Morrus), Corporal Cajun (LaRoux), Major Stash (Hammer), and G.I. Chavo became known as Lieutenant Loco, his first real name change since entering WCW. Soon, the group began doning military uniforms, and changed their names to suit their personas. The next week, though, Chavo and the rest returned, calling themselves the Misfits in Action, or M.I.A. Eric Bischoff answered their pleas in his own way, when, after Hugh Morrus won a big match, he fired the entire crew. The group then began protesting the fact that they weren't getting any push, despite their being the 'younger' generation. Chavo, paired with Hugh Morrus, Van Hammer, and Lash LaRoux, formed a secondary unit that worked for the New Blood, usually unsuccessfully. The gimmick earned little heat from the crowd, however, and was later dropped.Ĭhavo's career was given a recharge in April '00, when Vince Russo and Eric Bischoff returned to take charge, forming the New Blood. He also did some interview segments, questioning numerous stars in the backstage area (while still trying to make a profit). He routinely appeared as a catalogue salesman for a time, trying to sell various items to fellow wrestlers, with little success. Chavo then faded back to Saturday night shows, rarely appearing on Nitro or Thunder, except for jobber-status. Chavo seemed to drop in the ratings of WCW afterwards, although he did have another brief feud with Billy Kidman during the Tag-Team Title Tournament. The death of Pepe essentially ended some energy for Chavo, as he lost to Smiley at the next PPV. Poor Pepe was then tossed in, right as Chavo arrived. The most serious confrontation began at Pepe's "birthday party", when Smiley smashed Chavo through the cake (and the table), then took Pepe back to a wood-shredder. The two fought it out at Road Wild with an easy victory for Ray.Īfter a brief feud with the LWO and Billy Kidman, Chavo began having problems with Norman Smiley. ![]() Chavo then began appearing infrequently in other people's matches, and especially took an interest in Stevie Ray and the TV Title he was defending (for his brother) at the time. Seconds later, Chavo shaved his own head. The two eventually had it out in a hair-vs-hair match that Chavo lost. He began to carry a wooden horse named Pepe, and started calling Eddy "Little Trooper". After a long period of this, Chavo apparently snapped. Eddie continuously humiliated Chavo, changing his matches and helping Chavo to lose. opted to come to WCW to work with his uncle Eddie Guerrero, already an established star, and debuted in WCW in May '96.Ĭhavo's career began to turn when Eddie decided to become his "trainer". In 1996, Chavo headed off to New Japan Pro Wrestling, where he earned his name as one of the growing talents in the world.
